Here is the Tosihba Libretto W100, an ultraportable notebook that is priced around $1000. Featuring a 1.2 GHz Pentium processor and 2GB of RAM, it runs Windows 7 and due out later this year. Instead of a keyboard you get the choice of six virtual keyboards including a keyboard spread out on the two screens. Check out the three videos after the break has two more parts, so check it out.
Although Windows Phone 7 is the really hot mobile platform from Microsoft right now Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets will still have to make do for now as WP7S is only coming in stores later this fall. One of those Windows Mobile 6.5 phones is the K01 from Toshiba. Announced at MWC 2010 the phone has just been spotted at the FCC and its apparently coming to Europe and Asia at some point soon. We dont have actual arrival dates and pricing details but expect it to hit carriers in the near
I had a few precious moments with this at Mobile World Congress 2010 and whilst the keyboard wasn’t a Touch Pro2 beater the phone was a wonderful example of just how well rounded Windows Mobile could be. One of the most impressive features being the HD playback, smooth and crisp.
I was given a brief tour of the Toshiba TG02 by someone who knew less about it than my Granny (happy 94th today Granny.) Oddly the TG02 was running SPB Mobile Shell and not a Toshiba created GUI. Size-wise it’s quite nice but lacks many of the refinements we see in offerings from HTC and Samsung of late. Video after the break:
Finally a phone with a slide out Qwerty keyboard that does not contain the word Pro in the title. Appearing beside the TG02 The K01 has the same 4.1” Capacitive screen and runs Windows Mobile 6.5.3, however more importantly the K01 has a OLED screen and the difference in the screen clarity is notable. They also had the TG01 on display and it was nice to see the linage of Toshiba’s recent models altogether. Couple of pictures after the break:
The TG01 probably still has the sexiest hardware made to date, trouble was, the software was terrible and the resistive screen sealed its fate. Skip forward 12 months and now Toshiba has updated the beauty with brawn and brains. Say hello to the Toshiba TG02.
Sporting Windows Mobile 6.5.3 with a UI layer provided by SPB Mobile Shell, a popular third part skin for WinMo in the similar vein to HTC’s efforts which has gained popularity for those in the know, and a capacitive screen to go along with the Snapdragon 1ghz cpu. Seems like Tosh still have a few kinks to work out but without doubt the TG02 is worth a second look. The eagle eyed amongst you will spot CorePlayer, which happens to be one of the most versatile media players ever made and will hopefully make it into the final build.
Toshiba has announced the TG02 handset, a capacitive touchscreen Windows Phone using the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform and sporting a 1GHz processor.
The Toshiba TG02 is an update to the original TG01 which had a woeful 3D UI and a resistive screen, this update brings a much needed 4.1-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen and a newly retooled 3D menu.
Toshiba believes that a newly designed ’3D’ menu system on the handset will boost the phone’s popularity billing the phone as an ‘ideal device for users who demand high-quality entertainment on the go’.
Enhances user experience
"Based on the very latest Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, the TG02 enhances the user experience with its quick and easy operation," says Tosh’s release
"An internal 1GHz processor also makes the TG02 an ideal device for internet browsing, enabling users to quickly access and load websites or stream content."
There is no UK release date given for the TG02 yet or a price for the British market.
Toshiba has announced the K01 mobile phone sporting a full slide out QWERTY keyboard and a 4.1 inch OLED capacitive screen.
The phone – which was announced alongside the Toshiba TG02 – brings the ever-popular QWERTY keyboard but it is the device’s screen which will garner the most attention.
"The K01 also offers Toshiba’s first-ever Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) capacitive 10.4cm (4.1 inch) widescreen – providing bright colour, contrast, lower power consumption and faster response times than ever before," said Toshiba.
A sliver under 1.3cm
The K01 is 12.9mm thick – with the keyboard obviously boosting the size somewhat , running Windows Mobile 6.5 with a 1GHz processor, up to 32GB storage (through a MicroSDHC slot) and the company’s new user interface which it hopes will "let users quickly browse to their favourite features, saving time and making the mobile experience more enjoyable."
There is no UK release date or price available as yet for the Toshiba K01, but the moment that we find them out we will, of course, let you know.
T3 has been working for a while on group test of four of the most popular Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets on the market. Weighing up the pros and cons and it makes for an interesting read. Check out the highlights after the break. Confusingly they have a picture of the Touch Pro2 over the Touch2 section. Even from the review it is difficult to judge as to whether with are reviewing the Touch Pro2 and Touch2, however given the lack of mention of the Qwerty keyboard I guess they mean the Touch2 and have merely posted the wrong picture.
Nick over at Tracyandmatt.co.uk has published a review of the new Toshiba TG01. Interesting stuff as this certainly looked like one of the best phones of the year.
