Sony Ericsson X10 to be on time

p_sonyx10

Sony Ericsson have gone on the record to say that the Sony Ericsson X10 has not been delayed. A spokesman has reinforced the Q1 release date, “If anything appeared (on the Sony Ericsson website) saying otherwise, then it was incorrect.”

So we can look at it in one of two ways. Sony Ericsson has focused their attention and applied all resources on the device, ignoring the X2 and Satio to produce something special. Or, Sony Ericsson don’t have any phones selling at the moment since the bad press of the X2 and Satio has killed their rep and are desperate to get something out by hook or by crook.

Does anyone know for sure which carriers will be selling this phone.
Its UI slowness does worry me a little but when the android 2.x update comes along its bound to improve in some fashion.

    7. [...] With the problems that Sony Ericsson has had trying to launch the Xperia X2 on time, can the joint venture make good on its Q1 launch target for the flagship Xperia X10? A spokesman for the company says that there is no delay for the Android flavored X10, saying, “If anything appeared (on the Sony Ericsson website) saying otherwise, then it was incorrect.” As we’ve reported, the X2 has been delayed but is soon to make its North American launch as the X2a. It is possible that with the great reviews and press that the current Android stars the Motorola DROID and the HTC Nexus One have been receiving, Sony Ericsson feels the pressure to get its Android star launched before it’s too late. The joint venture might have pulled resources from other models like the X2 to concentrate on getting the flagship X10 out on time. But the good news for the many who are patiently waiting for the Xperia X10 is that you can expect the phone to be released this quarter. source: MobileTechReview [...]

I’ve had the Xperia x10 for three days now, and it has already packed up working. It simply will not turn on anymore. I put it on charge last night, and this morning i noticed it was turned off. I tried to turn it on and it simply won’t turn on. There is no indicator to tell me whether it is the phone or the charger that is at fault. So, three days in it is already presenting problems that could be significant.

In terms of the rest of its functionality, the new Android OS isn’t that amazing – how on earth do you set the sms message ringtone notification to a new ringtone that is not one of the standard inbuilt ringtones? I’ve downloaded audio clips and wanted to use one as the text message alert sound, but no, it won’t let that happen. So that is not to great.

The general navigation is a bit ropey as well. Some options can only be located by an alternate key sequence – a bit like Office 2007, the changed approach threw old users and left people wondering where half of the functions had gone to.

On the plus side, the screen is great, the handset looks great, and the resolution is good. The interface is not awesome, but okay, and does most things well enough. Can i recommend it? – not sure yet, at present, this phone is a risk – it really depends if the current fault with my X10 handset turns out to be a common problem, or i just got a freak handset.
