Why most iPod and iPhone accessories will not charge iPhone 3G
Since the disappointment of the Dension Gateway 100 not charging the iPhone 3G I have been seeking answers as to what the problem is and it appears that Apple have removed the ability to charge the iPhone 3G via Firewire. The iPods and original iPhone connector has two sets of power connectors – one for USB and one for Firewire but the new iPhone 3G only has USB charging pins.
Apple decided to completely remove support for Firewire charging on the iPhone 3G, therefore certain accessories will not charge the iPhone 3G. Not all of them are incompatible with the iPhone 3G when it comes to charging. Only those that were designed with the Firewire charging ports. Unfortunately because of the difference in voltages, 5V for USB and 12V for Firewire and cars operating in the 12 Volt range, every wired car kit uses the 12 volt Firewire option to avoid changing voltages, this is why they do not work.

I read somewhere that Apple did away with the Firewire option for new iPods a few years back. It only makes since that the iPhone would be the same way.
Yes, Apple stopped supporting Firewire SYNCING for iPods/iPhone a few years back. But they have up till now supported CHARGING with firewire power.

I’m leaning towards certain chipset found in charging accessories, ever wonder why chargers cost like 30 bucks for the usb converter and 30 more bucks for the wire? Cha-ching, you can easily get both of them for under 5 bucks at sites such as deal extreme. So in a move by apple top brass assholes they charge a large amount for licensing fee for these chips that cost pennies to make, hopefully in China or Taiwan they’re making a similar chip that could bypass and where the US law can’t reach them.
Well I do not like the bumpers apple is offering. Just came across a post over at over at Apple-Liscious about bumpers that rectify the antenna issue. Why do i have to wait around 4 weeks for some ugly bumper? Why did Apple sent out the new iphone with this kind problem?
